ABOUT VEHICLE TRACKING |
In general, a vehicle tracking system or service monitors the location of vehicles as they move about the surface of the earth. Each vehicle is provided with a mechanism to compute and report its location, while the tracking system collects, processes, stores and allows the display of the collected location information.
In the broadest terms, any vehicle tracking system, whether it is custom-assembled from components or offered as a turn-key service, must accomplish the following general tasks:
Provide an in-vehicle means of computing the exact, current location.
Provide a way to broadcast each vehicle's computed location.
Provide some mechanism for collecting the broadcast location
information.
Process, store and disseminate all received location information.
Provide a way of visualizing the received, real-time location information.
Provide a way to assemble historic, tabular reports of vehicle activity.
